説明
This application is a multilingual Japanese dictionary that does not require an internet connection.
Imiwa? was created using the amazing JMdict files from the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group based on the work of Jim Breen on the EDICT project.
While some definitions are available in 4 languages (English, French, Russian and German), only the English translation is guaranteed for all entries in the JMDict dictionary. Initiate a search in any of those 4 languages, in Japanese or in romaji and imiwa? will do the rest.
imiwa? Also includes a rich database of kanji (KanjiDic), examples (from tatoeba.org) and conjugations as well as tools suitable for beginners.
Use the Traditional Chinese character recognition keyboard included in the iOS system for drawing kanji on screen.

The first app I mention for Japanese learners
I’ve been in Japan for 21 years. I encounter new words daily. This app is my go to tool for working things out. When people ask for advice for learning Japanese, I always point them to imiwa? It’s that good. Frankly, I’m shocked it’s free.
The ability to input text from browser clipboards is fantastic. I also love the ability to input kanji via handwriting once a Chinese keyboard is enabled in your browser of choice.
Simply fantastic. The developers have made living in Japan considerably easier and a lot more interesting.

A must-have app
I rarely review apps but this app I’ve been using for years now and it’s just so helpful ! I use it almost everyday here in japan and it’s free.

A must for Japanese learners
The only review for an app that I’ve ever written. This app has many amazing features outside of simple word look up such as: example sentences, kanji stroke order, slang, writing in romaji to find a word, and that’s just to name a few.
This could easily be $10+ but it is FREE! I use this app daily and can’t thank the developers enough

Great dictionary
My favorite dictionary app for years, but it’s in desperate need of a cosmetic makeover. Blood red and green-yellow are not a good combination. I would prefer if it was a more calm color scheme, like light blue or green instead.

Incredibly helpful
In my opinion this is one of THE best apps on the App Store. Seriously. So much well made goodness that I can’t believe you can get this for free. The author could easily make it one of the more expensive apps and it would still be worth it. So the only thing to say is Thank you for making it available for free.

Good but heavy
Good dictionary app. Decent translation and appreciate the translations into languages other than English as well. Only, the app is huge! Takes up loads of space. Has some features that I’ll never use such as the many kanji look up methods.

Awesome free app
The analysis function is amazing, much better than Google translation. You copy a sentence from a conversation, for example, then open this app, it will automatically analyze the sentence for you (what words included, their meanings, and you can further click to each word to learn more). No ads, great! Thank you, Costanzo-the developer!

Worth a million dollars
Looks pricey, but i have used this app over five years, possibly longer when the name was “kotoba” this is hands down THE BEST dictionary learning app for japanese. And they even animate to show you kanji strokes!
For japanese synonyms and antonyms, flawless... the best thing though... if you hear someone say a new word... you can type it in English characters, and find it!!!! Type hiragana, and find it! Pass the phone to your friend, and they can type it... FLAWLESS!!! This app is for literally anyone! Thank you guys so much... if you ever update, i would have no problem buying it again, and again... but updates are free???? Wow! Best app in the world!

Probably would have given up on Japanese if not for this app
Across eight years of studying Japanese and four years of living in Japan, I've looked up 3000+ words (I know because I logged the on the list functions), and I would guess that there have been less than 100 times I've looked up a word and it wasn't in this dictionary. Worth the cost of buying a smartphone to use this app.

Essential for Japanese Studies
Even though it lacks some of the advanced funtions you'll find in apps like Google Translate (full text translation, dynamic kanji writing, photographic kanji recognition...) imiwa? Has a sufficiently robust library and enough unique (as far as I know) functions that keep it on the front page of my iPhone. Some of these functions include:
--animated kanji-writing demonstrations (indespensible for anyone who wants to write properly)
--"jukugo" kanji break-downs (very useful for understanding and remembering complex kanji)
--unlimited vocabularly lists. Seriously, I'd keep this app on top for this alone. I have over a dozen thematic lists (Business Japanese, Manga Japanese, Japanese Words I Keep Forgetting, JLPT Vocab...).
I would gladly pay for this free app, and I strongly urge all of my English languge students to use it as well.

Greatest Japanese dictionary ever!
Please update this app so it works with the latest iOS (Even if it's no longer free!)
I live in Japan so I use this app all the time, every day. It's a lifesaver!
But I just got a warning that it needs updating or it will not work with future iOS versions... really hope the developers update this app.

I love this app and use it all the time. I wonder, will there be an update for the app for the current iOS? Mu iPad warned me that the app will not work for future versions of the iOS.

Update: this is still THE best Japanese dictionary app on iOS. But last update was 2014 and we're going to lose the compatibility of using this app with future iOS version. Please update this app :(

Needs an update for IOS 9
This is the best Japanese/English/Kanji dictionary I have used. But now with the newest IOS 9 update the kanji section does not display very well when looking up characters by multiple radical. I am looking forward to the update. I also realize that this is a free one so I will wait.
